About Us

Our Mission & Vision

We are a fellowship of Christians, called to be active disciples of Jesus Christ. We are committed to sharing Christ’s love and are dedicated to the spiritual growth and nurture of our congregation and community. We celebrate the ministries that have brought us to where we are today and seek new ways to glorify God by sharing God’s word with all people.

What We Believe

As part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), Little River Presbyterian Church is grounded in the Reformed tradition and guided by the belief that God is the Creator and Ruler of all, Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior, and the Holy Spirit is ever present and active in the world. We believe that Scripture is the inspired Word of God, revealing God’s love and purpose for humanity. Through grace alone, we are saved—not by our own works, but by God’s mercy—and we respond to that grace with lives of gratitude, service, and faith.

We believe that every person is a child of God, created with dignity and called to live in community. The church is the body of Christ, where all are invited to grow in faith, share in worship, and serve others in Christ’s name. As Presbyterians, we value thoughtful faith, shared leadership, and an active concern for justice and compassion in the world. Our life together is centered on glorifying God, caring for one another, and bearing witness to Christ’s transforming love in our community and beyond.

Our Leadership

  • With over 30 years of music leadership at LRPC, Susan keeps our congregation and choirs in a joyful spirit.

  • Kathy is the one who gets things done.

  • Rev. Carrie Rhoads Tuttle is our Transitional Pastor as of January 27, 2026.

Carrie has been connected with New Hope Presbytery since she was involved in Presbyterian Campus Ministry at NC State over 30 years ago.  She worked for Red Hat Software and The Atlantic and Fast Company magazines prior to graduating from Columbia Theological Seminary in 2002.  Carrie has served as an Associate Pastor for Youth and Families, Parish Associate for Pastoral Care, retreat and small group leader, supply preacher and a chaplain at a retirement community.  Most recently Carrie served as the Interim Head of Staff at First Presbyterian Church in Burlington, NC, for a year following four years as part-time Parish Associate for Pastoral Care at FPC Burlington.

Carrie lives in Durham with her husband Chris (pastor at Westminster Durham), three children (a sophomore at Wake Forest, a senior in high school, and a 7th grader!) and her not-so-well-behaved dog, Rosie.

Our History

1788

The earliest known grave marker in the Little River cemetery, a rock marker with information hand-carved for 2 yr old Margret Brown, is from 1788. The cemetery’s columbarium was constructed in 2003 soon after the sudden death of Little River’s beloved pastor, Rev. Larry Broadright.

1889

When the log church burned, a frame structure was built on the foundation of the first. The third and current building was erected in 1889.

1942 - 1982

Extensive renovation and growth to the church building, including the addition of a basement, hand dug, for Sunday School classes, the fellowship hall for regular gatherings, and a manse for pastor use.

1992

The first Little River BBQ Supper was organized by the church with proceeds going towards new Sunday School Rooms. The education wing was built in 1993 and the BBQ Supper Fundraiser continues with the proceeds going to fund mission work.

2014 - 2015

The Little River Quilting Group was formed, under the lead of our first female pastor, Jane Wilson. Sherry Broadright formed the Little River Bell Choir, ringing with joy on select Sundays and special events.

2020 - Today

Necessary technology was added to the church to keep our congregation active while at home during the COVID-19 pandemic. Check out our worship page to watch recordings of recent services. Little River is as rooted in the community as when it was founded. Our commitment to sharing Christ’s love has not faltered.
